NOUN'S SCHOOL FEES HIKE, NAUS STANDS TO SAY NO

**

Today, I was on a consultative visit to some Study Centres of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) with the National President of the Congress of NOUN Students (CONS), Com. Abolore Busari and the PRO, Com Shakirudeen Kareem to liaise with the Management regarding the recent increment in school fees of the institution.

It is no more an hearsay that NOUN which happens to be the only institution that avails opportunity for the working-class and financially handicapped students who can not afford 24/7 stay on campus, without involving in a side hustle to have the taste of Tertiary Institution, has become the means of cashing out by the Management in accomplice of the Federal Government.

The news of the recent hike in the school fees by 40% of the earlier charge is a sad story which the Directorate of Campus Affairs and Intervention of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) stands against. Haven't seen bad to worst, I've never ----- not even for once ----- heard of an institution which mandates paying fees for individual courses registered per session. Worrisome enough, the higher the Unit of the course, the higher the charge on the course ---- only in NOUN.

This is beyond condemnation and a yardstick for making the institution unaffordable to the poor. As Consultation is still ongoing to ensure the inhumane decision is rescinded, we hereby enjoin the entire students to expect positive response from the Management in no distant time.

E Soweto!
E Africa!!

Com. Yinusa Abdullahi
National Director of Campus Affairs and Intervention
National Association of University Students (NAUS)
