Many students have been inquiring about the next steps for those whose results are showing as "pending" or tagged as "incomplete." We understand your concerns and would like to provide some clarity on the situation.
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) released a memo addressing this issue some times ago. According to NOUN, students in this situation have two options:
1. Reattempt Option: Students can choose to reattempt the TMAs of the affected courses. However, the details of this process are not yet fully clear. We are awaiting further information from NOUN regarding:
- When the reattempt of Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) will begin
- Whether the reattempt will count for the previous semester or the current one
- If students will need to pay semester fees for the reattempt
2. Full Retake Option: Students can opt to re-register for the affected courses, retake all TMAs, and sit for the exams again. This option essentially means repeating the semester for these courses. Please note that choosing this option would result in:
- Loss of previously paid funds (except for the course registration fee)
- Additional time spent on these courses
- Potential delay in your academic progress
NOUN has indicated that they recommend the second option for students whose exam grades, even when combined with TMA scores, are very poor. However, the final decision rests with each student.
Based on the information we've gathered, it appears that the TMA reattempt option may involve:
- Paying the semester fee
- Not registering for affected courses this semester
- Not registering for exams in affected courses
- Redoing only the TMAs for affected courses
- Having the new grades count for the current semester rather than the previous one
Please note that this is our current understanding and should be considered unofficial until NOUN provides further clarification.
We advise all affected students to:
1. Carefully consider both options
2. Wait for official communication from NOUN for more detailed information
3. Plan accordingly for the upcoming semester
