From the National Secretariat of Oke Ogun Youth Parliament, Northern Oyo State, Nigeria

Date: 12-08-2024

On this special occasion of International Youth Day, the Oke Ogun Youth Parliament extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the vibrant and dynamic youth of Northern Oyo State, Nigeria, and beyond. This day is a significant reminder of the invaluable role that young people play in shaping the future of our communities, our state, and our nation.

The theme of this year’s International Youth Day, “Technology and youth” resonates deeply with our mission to empower, educate, and engage the youth in meaningful ways that promote sustainable development and social justice. As we observe this day, we are reminded of the immense potential that lies within our youth, and the urgent need to harness that potential for the greater good.

The youth of Oke Ogun have always been at the forefront of positive change, demonstrating resilience, creativity, and a commitment to progress. However, we must acknowledge that there are still significant challenges that our youth face, including unemployment, access to quality education, and opportunities for meaningful participation in governance.

In response to these challenges, the Oke Ogun Youth Parliament is committed to:

1.Advocating for Policies that Support Youth Development: We call on local and state governments to prioritize policies that create jobs, enhance educational opportunities, and provide platforms for youth participation in decision-making processes.

2.Promoting Entrepreneurship and Innovation: We encourage our youth to embrace entrepreneurship and innovative thinking as pathways to economic empowerment. The Parliament will continue to facilitate programs and initiatives that provide the necessary skills and resources to nurture young entrepreneurs.

3.Fostering Civic Engagement and Leadership: We believe that the future of our community depends on the active involvement of our youth in governance and civic activities. The Parliament will strengthen its efforts to mentor and support young leaders who are committed to making a difference.

4.Ensuring Access to Quality Education: Education is the foundation of any progressive society. We urge all stakeholders to invest in the education of our youth, ensuring that they have the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

As we celebrate International Youth Day, let us remember that the strength of our society is measured by the strength of its youth. We must all come together governments, civil society, private sector, and the youth themselves—to build an environment where young people can thrive and contribute to the development of our nation.

To the youth of Oke Ogun and Northern Oyo State, we say: The future is ours to shape. Let us continue to work together to build a better tomorrow, not just for ourselves but for the generations to come.

Happy International Youth Day!
