The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, has commended the management of NOUN Staff School (NSS) for uplifting and maintaining the quality of education in the school.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was the Special Guest of Honour, made the remark through his representative, the former Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Nda E. Mundi at the 10th Annual Speech and Prize-Given Day of the NSS, which was held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in Kaduna.
Peters congratulated and appreciated the management of the school and the parents for putting their heads together to ensure that this remarkable achievement of uplifting the standard of the school was recorded.
He urged parents to ensure that they heavily invest in education of their children as education is the bedrock of every human development and the best legacy one can leave for his children without regret.
"NOUN is here to provide that," the VC said.
peters appealed for a full cooperation and maintainance of mutual understanding between the management and parents so as to continue to gain more success stories.
The VC assured the gathering of his willingness to continue to give his support to the NSS so as to effectively and efficiently provide the purpose of its establishment.
Earlier in his graduation speech, the pioneer, Kaduna Study Centre Director, Professor Nuhu Lawrence Garba, acknowledged the fast level of growth of the NSS in graduating and polishing the pupils to standard, suitable for upper grade level of education.
He cautioned parents not to be discouraged with the financial implications involved in providing quality education for their children as it is a great investment that would yield dividend not only for themselves or for the parents but to the entire humanity.
Garba further motivated the graduating students by pointing at those in the Vice-Chancellor's procession, saying that they once followed similar procedure to attain the status in which they are today.
He therefore urged them to emulate them as, one day, they may become professors and doctors and become professionals in other fields of endeavour.
He called on the management to continue to do their best in providing quality and rich education for the people of Kaduna State and the country at large.
In his welcome address, the Director, Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), Dr. Aminu Umar, explained that the event would have taken place earlier than this time but due to the threat of protests across the country, the scenario mandated the school management to shift it.
Umar, who is in charge of overseeing the affairs of the school, maintained that NSS has attained the status capable of competing with any other school around the state in terms of quality and standard.
He added that the management of the school has always been on his toes to ensure quality is maintained and that the best is given to pupils and the community.
He pledged for more cordial cooperation with the parents so as to continue to serve the community with their best and in a better way.
The director urged parents and guardians to patronise NSS for quality education which is the best for the future development of their children, even as he thanked the host and surrounding communities for their kind support to the development and sustainability of the school.

The Chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Comrade Abdullah Ibrahim, while delivering his address, urged the management of the school to as a matter of urgency begin to switch into virtual mode of delivery.
"From 2019 to date, we have experienced three phenomena that kept our children at home and idle ranging from Covid-19 Pandemic to Endsars and the recent one Endbad governance and hunger protest," said Ibrahim.
He thanked the management and parents for investing their trust on the association.
There were goodwill messages from the directors of Kaduna and NAF Special Study Centres, Dr. Babangida Iro and Dr. Madu Baba Galadima, respectively.
There were also presentations of gifts and certificates to the graduating pupils and to those who made outstanding performances.
