Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for NOUN Students

Q: I registered late last semester and had to drop some courses. Can I register for new courses this semester and complete the remaining ones later?
A: Yes, you can register for both new semester courses and leftover courses from last semester, as long as you don't exceed 24 units. This flexibility allows you to catch up on missed courses while progressing with your current semester.

Q: Must I register for carryover (failed and incomplete) courses immediately?
A: No, it's not mandatory, but it's highly recommended to register for them as soon as possible. Failing to address carryover courses promptly can causes;
- Accumulating additional carryover courses
- Potential negative effects on your academic progress

Q: Can I use the money in my wallet to pay for this semester's fees, or do I need to make a new payment?
A: You can use the money in your wallet and add to it if necessary. This convenient option helps you manage your finances efficiently.

Q: Must I pay my school fees (semester, course, and exam fees) all at once?
A: No, you can split your payment into 2-3 installments or more. Ensure you present all Remita payment slips during clearance to avoid any issues.

Q: What are the consequences of not paying my school fees in full?
A: Failing to pay your school fees in full will result in:

- Inability to collect course materials
- Restriction from participating in discussion forums and other activities.
- Limited access to facilitation on your eLearn portal (unless someone shares a link with you)

Q: Must I register for all courses in my new semester, including all electives (E)?
A: No, you can't register for more than 24 units per semester. If you have multiple electives, you can:

- Register for 1 or 2 to 3 electives, depending on your capacity
I will advise you to register one.
- Consider the total unit of the core courses (C) when selecting electives.
Register all your C courses.

Q: What causes incomplete and failed courses?
A: Incomplete (I) courses occur when:

- You register for a course and exam but don't attempt TMA123 and sit for the exam
- You attempt TMA123 but don't sit for the exam

Failed (F) courses occur when:

- You register for the course and exam but score low in TMA and exam (below 40)

About  the Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA)

Tutor Marked Assignment  (TMA) stands for continuous assessment. There are three for every course you register except project, seminar, teaching practice and practicum which do not have TMAs.

They are called TMA1, TMA2, and TMA3.  All TMA 1 in all registered courses for examinations are made available in the same period.  Likewise TMA2 and TMA3.

Each TMA is made up of multiple choice, fill-in-the blank or true/false questions which are targeted as testing your understanding of what you read in the course.

You can only access the TMAs of courses you have registered for examination after 48hrs of registration. This is subject to the schedule of the university academic calendar. Each TMAs carries 10 marks that is, TMA makes up 30% of your total score in every course you register.

TMA for 2025/1 semester will start on the 17th of March.
